vocPuppy is based completely on Microsoft Office™ architecture that enables taxonomies or controlled vocabularies created by vocPuppy to be accessible in any MS Office™ document.  And vocPuppy can be activated in any MS™ document with a simple mouse click.

vocPuppy manages the taxonomy data using the database engine that is part of Windows™ operating system so the user doesn’t need to be concerned with purchasing and setting up databases.  As a result, it makes the deployment of vocPuppy easy and cost-effective. 

3.     Effective and Easy-to-use Interface

vocPuppy provides an integrated display of your taxonomy that allows you to navigate the taxonomy hierarchy easily by using an expandable/collapsible classification tree.  It also enables you to view a category or term in its hierarchical position in the tree and its complete record simultaneously as shown below.

While navigating the taxonomy tree, the user always knows where a particular category is in the tree and what information it contains at the same time.  You easily perform actions on the selected category by clicking command buttons at any time.

4.     Extraordinary Data Editing

vocPuppy offers extraordinary data editing capability.  This allows you to create a hierarchical taxonomy easily and quickly.  Among many other features, vocPuppy offers the following editing capabilities:

• Unlimited number of taxonomies – you can create or import as many taxonomies as you desire.

• Unlimited number of categories - you can create as many categories or terms within a taxonomy as you desire.

• Hierarchical move – you can easily move a descriptor or a block of descriptors, which can be hundreds of descriptors, to a different hierarchical position within the same hierarchy or to another hierarchy by few simple mouse clicks.

• Block deletion – you can delete a block of terms with a simple mouse click.  Of course, you will be prompted for confirmation.

• Specifying broader terms or related terms without typing – in most cases, you can specify a broader term or related term without typing, but by simply selecting the term from the hierarchy.  When moving a term, you can specify the new broader term by selecting it from the desired hierarchy, instead of entering it.

• Automatic generation of reciprocals - TS automatically generates reciprocals for all reciprocal relationships, including Broader Term/Narrower Term, Used For/USE, and Related Term.

5.     Superb Data Validation

vocPuppy thoroughly checks duplications and conflicts before committing any data to the database to guarantee the integrity of your data.  Among many other features, vocPuppy checks the following duplications and conflicts:

• Category Duplication: No duplication is allowed for the category within a taxonomy.

• Used For Duplication: No duplication is allowed for the Used For term within a taxonomy.

• Related Term Duplication: No duplication is allowed for the related term of a particular category.

• BT/RT Conflict: When two categories already have a Broader Term/Narrower Term relationship, they cannot also have a Related Term relationship, and vise versa.

6.     Sophisticated Descriptor Searching

vocPuppy offers sophisticated searching for you to find categories in which you are interested.  When searching, you may use operator AND, OR, NOT to do complex Boolean searches. For example, "Samsung™ AND dvd" means finding categories with both keywords "Samsung™" and "dvd"; "dvd OR television" means finding categories with either keywords "dvd" or "television"; "television NOT plasma" means finding terms with keyword "television" but without keyword "plasma".

7.     Flexible MS Office™ Application Integration

vocPuppy provides a simple and flexible interface to allow its integration with any MS Office™ application.  After vocPuppy is installed, a vocPuppy button appears on the menu bar of any MS Office™ application.  The user can activate vocPuppy by simply clicking that button when desired.  After one or multiple values are selected from vocPuppy, these values are returned and pasted automatically where the cursor is pointed in the MS Office™ document.
