Web Vocabulary Navigator

ConceptChoir Web Vocabulary Navigator (WVN) is a static HTML representation of your vocabularies. Web Vocabulary Navigator enables you to publish your vocabularies on the web without the needs for databases or programming. It is a standalone program, independent from ConceptChoir once generated and it is compatible with all web servers due to the html file nature. Web Vocabulary Navigator is a fast and inexpensive way to introduce your vocabularies to general public.

There are two ways to open Web Vocabulary Navigator Exporter: using the quick link in ConceptChoir Editor (Figure 1), or using the Task Manager in ConceptChoir Manager (Figure 2).

In Web Vocabulary Navigator Exporter, all available vocabularies are listed under the Vocabulary section. Check the checkbox in front of any vocabulary to select, or uncheck to exclude it from the Web Vocabulary Navigator. If a vocabulary is highlighted, a hierarchical list of facets and hierarchies the vocabulary contains will be listed under the Hierarchy section. Similar to vocabulary inclusion/exclusion, select the checkbox will include the facet/hierarchy, deselect the checkbox will exclude it.

After you have selected vocabularies and their including facets/hierarchies, you can click the Export button to export Web Vocabulary Navigator using the default setting, or you can further customize WVN by changing the export options for selected vocabularies. Please note that the export option for WVN is vocabulary dependent, with the exception of Website Style Setting which we will cover later. A change on vocabulary A's export option will not affect vocabulary B's. To change export option for Web Vocabulary Navigator, first highlight the vocabulary, then click the button to open the WVN Export Option for the selected vocabulary as shown in Figure 4.

There are two styles of Web Vocabulary Navigator available: with Frame and Frameless. Please note that unlike other settings that only affect the current vocabulary, Website Style setting applies globally. Any changes made on Website Style from any vocabulary will overwrite previous settings to keep the consistency of each Web Vocabulary Navigator export. If you choose to have different website style for different vocabularies, you have to export them separately.

Click the button in Text Style box will open the font setting for the selected element. Currently, there are four levels of font style customization allowed by Web Vocabulary Navigator: Element Label, Element Text, Sub Element Label, and Sub Element Text.

Export Elements (Figure 6)

Export Elements section controls export scope settings for Web Vocabulary Navigator. Uncheck any elements that you do not wish to be included in Web Vocabulary Navigator in the Elements to be included box. Once an element or attribute being highlighted, you can update the Element Label for this element/attribute in the text field located on top of the Element and Attribute Labels box. If there are sub elements or attributes associated with the selected element, they will be listed under the element label field, giving you the option to exclude them or update their WVN label. Also, you can use the or button on the lower left corner of the window to change to position of the selected elements.

When satisfied with all export options, click Save button to keep changes and exit the Web Vocabulary Navigator Option window. Click Cancel button to discard any pending updates and close the option window.

After you finish customization of the WVN export options, or decide using export WVN with default settings, click the Export button to Export Web Vocabulary Navigator. Click Close button will exit the Web Vocabulary Navigator Exporter.
