ASCII Import Wizard

ASCII Import Wizard provides a step to step setup for user to import ASCII data source into ConceptChoir. To use ASCII Import Wizard to import a ASCII source, first select ASC Import Wizard to be the selected template in the Template dropdown menu of Import Manager. ConceptChoir will then automatically open ASCII Import Wizard to guide the user through the import process.

The ASCII Import Wizard takes four steps to complete the import.

Step 1 - General Information (Figure 1)

In step 1, user will need to specify the source location, to which vocabulary, facet/hierarchy to import to, and the beginning file tag and ending tag if applicable. After completing necessary setting, click Next button to proceed to Step 2. Click Cancel button to cancel all changes and exit the wizard without import.
 

Step 2 - Tag Mapping (Figure 2)

Tag Mapping step holds the key to the ASCII Import. Labels listed under Internal label is not editable. They are the default element labels defined by ConceptChoir.  User must map the tag correctly so that ConceptChoir can recognize the element during the import. For example, in your ASCII source file, you use MD to label the Modify Date element of the concept. You would need to do the mapping in the Tag Mapping step. First locate the Modify Date under the Internal Label field, then update the corresponding User Defined Label field with "MD". If your source file has record separator, please indicate the separator in the Record Separator field. Also please provide the data format of the data source in the Data Format field. After setting up all the tag mapping, click Next button to proceed to Step 3. Click Prev button to go back to Step 1 to make changes to previous setting. Click Cancel button to cancel all changes and exit the wizard without import.

Step 3 - Descriptor Information (Figure 3)

Step 3 controls the default setting for concept Stage, Status, and Children Order. User can map the stage, status and children order using the code in the source file if applicable, or choose a default setting for these setting when such information are absent in the source file. After setting up all the information, click Next button to proceed to Step 4. Click Prev button to go back to Step 2 to make changes to previous setting. Click Cancel button to cancel all changes and exit the wizard without import.

Step 4 - UF and UFA information (Figure 2)

In the final step of the ASCII Import Wizard, user need to specify the UF and UFA setting. If UF term is also presented as a record in the source file, user need to indicate so by checking the "Is UF also record?" checkbox and add UF tag and UF USE tag in the text fields. If UFA term is also presented as a record in the source file, user need to indicate so by checking the "Is UFA also record?" checkbox and add UFA tag, UFA USE tag, and UFA AND tag in the text fields. After setting up all the tag mapping, click Import button to import the ASCII source file into ConceptChoir. Click Prev button to go back to Step 3 to make changes to previous setting. Click Cancel button to cancel all changes and exit the wizard without import.
